Electrification of California
In an effort to reduce carbon emissions, California recently launched a new initiative known as TECH Clean California or Electrification of California. Homeowners are encouraged to take advantage of the instant savings rebate program by working with certified technicians who have been trained to remove gas furnaces and replace them with a high-efficiency heat pump. Not all HVAC companies are certified and part of this initiative. Christensen Heating & Cooling technicians are certified and have been trained by industry experts and are the premier choice for HVAC installation services in Roseville and the surrounding regions. If PG&E is your service provider, call our team today to learn your rebate options. We can help make your home a cleaner and safer space by removing your gas furnace and replacing it with an energy-efficient unit.

- Age of appliances – Gas furnaces typically need to be replaced every 15-20 years, while gas water heaters need replacement every 12-15 years.
- Space cooling needs – Heat pump systems provide both heating and cooling and can be used to supplement or replace the gas furnace. They also are controllable throughout each room in the house.
- Projects in the next 1-2 years – If you are planning a kitchen remodel or laundry room addition, this is a great opportunity to electrify appliances such as the cooktop, oven, or clothes dryer.
- Panel Upgrades – In rare instances a customer will need to upsize the existing electric panel to support converting all appliances to electric. Your approved contractor should be able to determine this prior to starting any project.
- SMUD is collaborating with TECH Clean California to support the installation of heat pump HVAC systems and other measures (e.g., panel upgrades, duct sealing) in existing residential homes.
- Your contractor must be enrolled in TECH Clean California before starting your project to offer these new incentives.
- Must have a qualifying multi-stage (two-stage or variable-stage) HVAC system installed by a participating contractor in the SMUD Contractor Network.
